Cool Earth Update: An environmental initiative supported across public and private sectors
Since we launched our partnership with Cool Earth, we have been overwhelmed by the response from our customers. Who is getting involved and what do they have to say?
Combining energy buying with social responsibility is at the heart of Open Energy Market. We want to help companies build better, meaningful and longer-lasting energy strategies, ensuring that one enhances the other every step of the way.
“Our energy experts and technology are there to connect energy users with the right suppliers and the right support at the right time”
It’s all about connection. Securing a new energy contract doesn’t have to sit separately from compliance reporting or any other CSR initiative. There are considerable benefits to following through on compliance reports to support future energy procurement. Likewise, many advantages come from keeping track of environmental legislation and initiatives during the lifetime of any energy contract. At OEM, our energy experts and technology are there to connect energy users with the right suppliers and the right support at the right time.
“It’s inspiring to see support from a huge and diverse number of sectors”
That is particularly evident through our unique partnership with Cool Earth, launched last year to help companies protect at-risk rainforest the instant they secure their energy contract. With nearly 30% of our 1000-acre target completed so far, we’re grateful to all our customers for the support they have shown for this partnership and the fight against climate change.
Across the private sector
It’s particularly inspiring to see support from a diverse set of industries. Leaders from technology, food production and UK sports have joined our partnership – you can find the full set on our interactive map.
From major retailers to high-end manufacturers, those companies come from across the country and they have taken the time to pass on some fantastic feedback.
Bespoke tailoring company, Gieves & Hawkes is one of the clothing manufacturers to join and finds:
“It makes both commercial and environmental sense to purchase our energy through the Cool Earth and Open Energy partnership. This is a simple but effective step forward on our sustainability journey. It has helped us by supporting our switch to a renewable energy provider, enabling us to do our utmost to help the environment and save money too.”
We’re not just gaining support from the private sector, but from public bodies, NGOs and charities, including leading human rights organisation Amnesty International. When London’s Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability joined the initiative, they told us:
“The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability welcomed the opportunity to participate in the Cool Earth scheme as part of procuring our energy with OEM. Promoting environmental initiatives aligns with our own values and we are very keen on creating positive outcomes locally and internationally.”
Companies are impressed with the speed of the scheme – they can instantly see the contribution their contract makes – but also the simple and compelling concept behind the worthwhile cause. We mirror an organisation’s energy-contracted footprint in the UK to protect rainforest in Northern Peru, supporting the Awajún community to fight deforestation.
The race against deforestation is on and we are looking forward to being joined by a greater range of companies from even more industries throughout 2019. Will that be you?
